Sanabria Lake

Sanabria Lake panoramic view

Lago de Sanabria is located in the province of Zamora, and almost equidistant from the northern Spanish region of Galicia and Portugal. This glacial-born lake is one of Spain's most stunning inland nature and a spot where you can easily unwind from the stress of life by enjoying the calm of the water.

It is approximately 12 km from the medieval village of Puebla de Sanabria to the lake. You can get near by car and schedule a hike around the lake from there if you really like nature. You can also enjoy water sports, boat trips and beaches across the lake. Careful, though: the water is still cold, even if the weather is nice!

Covadonga Lakes

The spectacular Lagos de Covadonga comprises three lakes (Enol, Ercina and Bricial, later only visible during the melting season) situated in the Asturians, also in northern Spain, of the Picos de Europa mountain range. You will recognize them every year from the Vuelta a España bike course.

They are so breathtaking that regardless of daytime or weather, a visit is worth it. During clear days, in their water, you can see the mountains mirrored and in dark days, the fog and rain is the perfect companion for this atmospheric environment.

We suggest you take the bus to see how cows graze on the way at an altitude of 1000 meters, and while the trip can be a little scary in some areas, in the middle of this green town you will be surprised to see those two tall, blue ink points. Final tips: stay, see the sunset from the lakes for an enchanting experience, and do not forget to stop up or down in the tiny village of Covadonga to visit the amazing Covadonga sanctuary.

Lake St Mauritius

Lleida's Aigüestortes National Park contains a natural marvel inside the so-called San Mauricio Bay. This beautiful lake surrounded by peaks of 3,000 meters/10,000 feet offers peace and quiet as you breathe fresh and clean air. The sensational lake is lovely at all times of the year, but it is especially wonderful in winter to see it frozen.

The Prat de Pierró car park takes an hour on foot, where you can leave the car, but if you leave from Espot, a little more. We suggest the path along the incomparably beautiful road and the views of the lake.

Rose Lagoon

In the vicinity of the town of Torrevieja in Alicante, on the Costa Blanca, there is a splendid enclave named 'The nature reserve of the Mata and Torreviej lake' and among its lagoons is the Laguna Rosa, the Pink Lagoon, that stands out most because of its chewing-gum colour.

The curious, rosy color is created by a high amount of salt as the lagoon lies beside salt mines and delights anyone who loves photography, since the sense shifts from a lunar landscape to an oasis of tranquility depending on the time of the day.

You can't afford to visit salt flats if you are interested in unusual landscapes particularly if you go with children who will marvel in the salt mountains! Before you decide to dip in, don't ignore the high concentration of water in salt first. If you have any skin cuts or wounds, it might be better to skip it. It's quite shallow, too, and just covers you so that you have to lie down to soak well.

Lake Martel

The Lake Martel will be nothing but the impressive Drach Caves of Mallorca, one of the world's most spectacular caves. Martel is one of the largest known underground lakes in the Balearic Islands and is named after the French speleologist Édouard-Alfred Martel who discovered it in 1896.

A visit to Drach Caves involves a classical concert and a cruise trip across Lake Martel's turquoise waters. Since 1935, this concert has lasted 10 minutes and consists of a quartet (cello, harpsichord and two violins). Thanks to the cave's acoustics, the concert's sound is absolutely special, and at least once a witness in your life.
